The Bermuda International Film Festival is creeping up and a host of film related events have been announced for this coming week.

The warm-up weekender launches with a special February edition of the monthly BIFFlix film series on Saturday evening, a fundraising walk on Sunday morning and a glamorous “Live from the Red Carpet” event on Sunday evening.

In celebration of the 2013 Academy Awards, BIFF has again teamed up with MEF to present this Oscars event at Margarita Grill in Hamilton.

The Oscars will be shown live from Hollywood and party guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite Oscar
winner.

This year’s film festival will be held from April 12 to 18 and all money raised will go towards staging BIFF 2013.

The following information was supplied by the Bermuda International Film Festival:

– BIFFlix February Special Edition — Saturday, February 23 at 5:30pm:

The February instalment of The Bermuda International Film Festival’s film series, BIFFlix, is Beloved. The latest film from modern musical director Christophe Honore, the film was the closing night selection of 2011 Cannes Film Festival. The film will screen at The Tradewinds Auditorium in the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, 40 Crow Lane, Pembroke.

Starring Catherine Deneuve and (her real-life daughter) Chiara Mastroianni, this sly and exquisitely romantic musical drama from Christophe Honoré (Love Songs, Dans Paris) spans over three decades as it follows a mother and daughter’s misadventures in love. In the 60s, Madeleine (Ludivine Sagnier) leaves Paris to re-join her Czech husband Jaromil (Rasha Bukvic) in Prague, but his infidelities and the arrival of Russian tanks in the city lead her back to France.

Thirty years later we follow the romance of Madeleine’s daughter, Vera, who falls in love with a musician (Paul Scneider) in London who is incapable of devoting himself to her. Meanwhile in Paris, a re-married Madeleine (Deneuve) has rekindled her love affair with Jaromil (Milos Forman). Louis Garrel and Paul Schneider also star in this light-hearted but ultimately moving exploration of the changing nature of relationships.

Tickets are available in advance at http://www.ptix.bm or purchase at the door on the day from 4:30pm with cash, check, or credit card. Tickets are priced at $15. The film is in French and runs 139 minutes.
