the help yay or nay?
The Help a film adaption of the best selling novel of the same name which boasts a number of extremely talented actress working today such as; Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, Allison Janney, Jessica Chastain, and Sissy Spacek is now playing at Liberty Theatre.
If you aren’t yet aware The Help has drawn a lot of criticism from critics since it’s release. Some hail it for it’s portrayal of three dimensional female characters which is a rarity in main-stream cinema. Others criticize the film for its conventional trappings which does nothing to further the growth of black cinema. While others are calling it Oscar bait already. Either way what one can not deny is that The Help has proven to do extremely well at the box office.
Here we take a moment and check in with some of our critic friends to see what all the fuss is about. Ryan Wells over at Cinespect gave it a less then glowing review . BIFF regular attendee Peter Rainer assigned the film a grade of B-. While David Poland a member of our international advisory board shares his thoughts on the film. He even goes so far to address the current critic controversy.
As always we encourage viewers to simply see the movie for themselves and make up their own minds.
