David Poland interviews Oscar nomminee writer/director Mike Leigh.
Dear Mr Leigh, Please forgive this unorthadox way of contacting you.. I am not computer literate and didn’t know how else to contact you ..BUT why, in almost the best film you have ever made, i.e. Vera Drake, do the coppers all have northern accents? The film is such an accurate historial document on contemorary 50’s working class London, and having been brought up at the time and in that place, I can honestly say that the accents are the only false note in an otherwise flawless drama. It would have been extremely unusual for even one policeman to have been northern, never mind all of them?? Having said that, this is one of the best films I have ever seen. Thank you – I just wonder what the explanation is??
